Personal development: 7 life lessons to learn during difficult times

Single and free woman

The truth is, life wouldn't be worth living if there were no difficult times. Although no one wants to face them, one thing to note is that you'll always learn more about life from times like this. And it's either you become stronger or it kills you. But it's always inspiring to tell a victory story at the end of the day.
Alicia Fanning of All Women Stalk shares some life lessons you should always remember:
  1. Give yourself the gift of gentleness: When you go through something difficult, be gentle with yourself. Comfort yourself the way you would a friend going through the same thing. Sometimes you have to be your own friend and encourage your own heart. That’s more than okay; in fact, it shows that you have strong coping skills. It’s wonderful if you can see that you need to treat yourself with gentleness.
  2. Break the circle of unfairness, unkindness or injustice:When someone treats you unfairly, unkindly or any other way that’s completely wrong, it’s normal to have the urge to treat them the same way. But not giving in to that actually makes you the better person. You’ve got the stronger character. Learn from the way you’ve been treated. Let it be a lesson to not repeat that behavior toward others.
  3. You can learn from watching the lives of others: You can learn so much by watching the actions of others in their life. If you’ve watched someone destroy themselves with an addiction, be vigilant that it doesn’t happen to you. If you’ve stood by as someone drowned in self-pity and bitterness, make the conscious choice to have a grateful heart instead of following in their footsteps. Others can show you exactly who you don’t want to be. Be thankful for that life lesson.
  4. Who has your back and who doesn't: Trying times will reveal this truth with glaring certainty. I’m so thankful for the love and support my husband gave me during the difficult #time I went through. It’s sad to learn who isn’t in your corner but it definitely strengthens your bonds with those who are. For me, I learned that my husband always has my back. For you, it may be a friend or family member that devotedly stood by you. Whoever it is, be thankful for those that love and support you in troubling circumstances.
  5. To feel your feelings: It’s important to allow yourself to feel your feelings when you’re going through something difficult. Don’t deny or repress them. Feelings aren’t wrong. Allow yourself to be angry, sad or whatever other emotion you have. Processing your feelings is healthy and helps you move on.
  6. Time heals all wounds: It’s true that there are wounds that never completely heal. But they do fade or they heal to the point that it’s only a scar. Time can heal in such #beautiful ways. #Things that’re devastating today won’t be as difficult in a few weeks or months. Allow #time to do it’s work on your heart.
  7. You are stronger than you think: Lastly, after you emerge from a difficult time, you’re going to realize that you’re stronger than you knew. You may not see it in the midst of what you’re facing. This’s something you see more in hindsight. But it’s a wonderful thing to #look back and see that you grew as a person through the experience you went through. It can be empowering to see your inner strength!

Court dissolves 25-year-old marriage over wife's lateness in preparing meals

Court dissolves 25-year-old marriage over wife's lateness in preparing meals

An Ikorodu Customary Court, Lagos, on Tuesday dissolved a 25-year-old marriage, between one Olufade Adekoya and his wife, Olusola, over lateness in preparing meals.
President of the court, Mr Olu Adebiyi, who dissolved the marriage, said there was "no longer any love in the marriage.’’
Adebiyi said that the court had tried several times to reconcile their indifferences but all efforts proved abortive.
"Therefore, you have ceased to be husband and wife, henceforth. I put an end to the union between both of you from today in the interest of peace,” he said.
The 57-year-old husband had told the court that his wife does not cook for him regularly and when she does, the food comes late.
"My wife had failed in her matrimonial obligations; she doesn’t prepare my food on time, I have warned her several times but she wouldn’t listen to me.
"Most times I go to the canteen to eat when I am hungry, there is no point in harbouring a wife that makes me hungry.
"In fact, my sister saw me there one of these days, I am totally fed up. Please separate us, I am no more interested in the marriage.’’
However, the 45-year-old respondent denied all the allegations and accused her husband of wanting to take another wife.
"He is accusing me wrongly because he wants to take another wife, please help me beg him.”

8 Ways to Love Your Parents More While They're Still Alive

Gsfjucygdbnf

We often forget about a real value of our parents. Many people have no chance to be surrounded by their parents`care and love so if you have parents who love you, give them as much appreciation as possible.

Being young is a time when you have plenty of fun things to do and you want to do them all at once. You don't have time to meet your parents every week and oftentimes you don't have any free minute to call them. Let's be honest, most of us take parents for granted, which is why I want all of you to realize that your parents won't live forever so appreciate them while they are still alive.

Here are some ideas to consider.

1. Learn from their lessons
Your parents are more experienced than you are as they have already lived a longer life than you. Therefore, they have a lot to say about the lessons they`ve learned on their way. Their rich experience can show you something you always miss thus you`d better learn from their lessons too. Like you, they used to make mistakes and made their own principles and rules they keep to in life even now. Try to avoid ignoring their life lessons and show your interest to become wiser and to show the appreciation for their important manuals.

2. Appreciate their help
You parents probably still take care of you even though you`re not a child anymore. They may provide you with money from time to time, do everything for your recovery when you`re sick and help you solve different problems. You`ll always be a child for them no matter how old you are. Realizing this fact is a great way to understand all their love and to appreciate your parents while they are still alive.

3. Remember about the holidays
While you have lots of friends to share the happiness of holidays with, your parents are waiting for you too. Don't forget about them. Remember all those birthdays, Father`s and Mother`s days, Christmas and other important holidays. You can celebrate their anniversaries and other important events like Thanksgiving Day or Halloween. Send them a card or text them to thank for everything they do for you.

4. Listen to their words attentively
Parents always try to teach us how to live and they often give us lots of advice. They do it because they love us and want to prevent us from making mistakes. Even though you sometimes don't want to do what they say, you should still listen attentively to what they advise you, and then make all necessary conclusions. Show them that you really appreciate their attempts to make you more successful even if you`re not going to follow their advice.

5. Spend more time together
Try to spend as much time with your parents as you can. Of course, now you have lots of other things to do and maybe you have your own family, but spending time with children is the most wanted activity for all fathers and mothers in the world. It's better to spend some time together every day but if you have no possibility to do this, simply visit them on weekends.

6. Talk to them
You parents need to talk to someone and they see each other all days long so they`d be happy to have a conversation with their children. Tell them about your job and relationship. Share your happiness with them and ask something you can't understand as they're more experienced and maybe they can help you where you don't know what to do. When it comes to parents, communication is a must.

7. Ask them for advice
Perhaps you know how to act in one or another situation. However, asking your parents for advice never hurts. If you have to make a problematic choice or just don't know what to do in some situation, ask your mom or dad for help and it'll be a compliment for them as it shows that you rely on them and their opinion is highly important to you.

8. Surprise them
Does your mom want a new slow cooker or blender? If you can afford to buy it, why not?You don't have to make presents on holidays only or when they succeed in something. Make little surprises like giving an ice-cream or a bar of their favorite chocolate when you visit them. These little pleasant trifles shouldn't be expensive. They just need to make your parents smile and that's it.

Parents gave you life. No matter what has happened between you and your parents, you have to appreciate them. Show that you love them and spend more time with them while you still have this chance. There's nothing worse than disrespectful children.

Do you appreciate your parents? What do you do to show them your love and appreciation?

We want to read your comments.

In order to reach her goal and become a top-ranked pilot, a Muslim woman has completed piloting Programs at Mid East Aviation Academy Jordan.

She was among 100 of students who were sponsored by Kano Kwankwasiyya Government to study piloting at the Academy.

But it would be noted that Fatima hasn't become a female pioneer in this difficult and challenging profession.

Two months ago all media reports exploded with the news about Nigeria's first female helicopter captain, Abimbola Jayeola (Captain AB), emerged and made history that day.

Moreover, a female pilot has recently appeared in Katsina state.

Ruqayya Suleiman was in the group of 15 other pilots trained in South Africa under a full Petroleum Trust Development Fund scholarship as international-certified commercial pilots.

The young woman not only got a unique profession, but managed to break the cultural barrier by acquiring a higher education which is quite unusual for girls from her area.

Osun Lecturer Faints In Bank After Finding N150 As February Salary In Account

A lecturer in a tertiary institution in Osun State (name withheld), on Thursday, collapsed inside a bank located within the institution’s premises following a discrepancy in his salary.

Witnesses said the lecturer fainted after discovering that his account had only been credited with N150 by the state government as 50 percent of his February salary instead of N150,000.

The lecturer, who is a post-graduate student at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), according to a witness, lamented, after being resuscitated by the bank’s officials, that the money paid by the government into his account could not even transport him to Akure, where he was billed to write an examination.

The man, it was gathered, also disclosed that he had some outstanding fees to pay at the university which he had proposed to pay with the expected salary.

As of the time of this report, he was said to be in a private hospital in Osogbo where his blood pressure, which had increased as a result of the shocking discovery in his account, was being managed.

Staff members of four tertiary institutions in the state - Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke; Osun State Polytechnic, Iree and colleges of education in Ilesa and Ila-Oragun - have expressed concern over alleged discrepancies in the payment of their salaries since November 2014.

A lecturer in the Department of Accounting in one of the schools (name withheld) lamented that his gross salary and net pay were N210,000 and N140,000, respectively, but he only received the sum of N260 as his February salary.

A management staff of the institution, whose salary is about N400,000, was also said to have received N12,000 for the same month.

Many teaching and non-teaching staff members of the institutions have criticised the state government for what they called the abnormalities being witnessed in the payment of their outstanding salaries.

It was also alleged that monies deducted by the state government from workers’ salaries for the purpose of schemes like the cooperative society had not been remitted since August 2014.
When Saturday Tribune visited the institutions on Friday, the gates were locked by workers who were protesting the development.

A worker at one of the institutions told Saturday Tribune that he collected the sum of N30,000 in December, N58,000 in January, while he received N125 as his take-home for the month of February.
He said fuelling his car from Ilesa to Esa-Oke had become a problem, just as he had been unable to collect his children’s report sheets from a private school in Ilesa because he could not pay their tuition.

The Public Relations Officer of the Academic Staff Union of state-owned institutions, and ASUP chairman of the state Polytechnic, Iree, Mr Dotun Omisore, in an interview with Saturday Tribune confirmed the ordeal of the lecturer who fainted and also condemned the “abnormalities and irregularities” in the payment of salaries of workers, saying that “we will not call off our strike until all our salaries and deductions” are paid by the state government.

Omisore warned that the deduction of workers’ contributions to the contributory pension scheme by the state government since about 36 months ago allegedly without remittance to the pension managers must also stop.

“If they cannot account for the one they have deducted, they should stop further deductions. Our pension is our hope and future. After 30 or 35 years in service, what are we expected to collect if the government is not remitting it?”

Omisore, however, disclosed that the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, had invited labour leaders in the institutions to a meeting this weekend to discuss the “abnormality” in the payment of salaries.

Ramadan Reminder Steps to reforming the self

Islam is a religion that teaches Muslims to focus on bettering themselves before thinking of changing others. Contrary to widespread statements made by terrorist about converting or changing others. Islam is a way of life that encourages the reform of self by following the Quran, the holy book of Islam, and the teachings of the final prophet, Muhammad, peace be upon him (pbuh).
An old Arab proverb aptly states: “The one who lacks something cannot give it to others.”
This saying establishes the fact that in order for one to spread “good” in terms of his or her character, manners, words, or actions, he or she must first strive to possess it.
In order to purify and enhance oneself, Islam outlines several pragmatic steps:
  •  Core worship, such as prayer, fasting, supplication, etc. Performing these allows Muslims to draw closer to God by increasing the individual’s awareness of God throughout the day. This will, in turn, decrease his or her likelihood to commit acts that would displease God, enabling people to raise their moral and ethical standards.
  • Smiling, being kind, and staying positive when interacting with others. This leads to mercifulness and forgiveness, which are attributes which God loves in human beings. Prophetic traditions mention that smiling is an act of charity and removing obstacles from the road is a sign of faith; others encourage people to spread good news and exchange gifts as a way of increasing love between people.
  • Having self discipline and managing one’s time so that the person is more productive throughout the day.
  • Lending a helping hand to those in need. Once Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was asked, “What actions are most excellent?” He answered, “To gladden the heart of human beings, to feed the hungry, to help the afflicted, to lighten the sorrow of the sorrowful, and to remove the sufferings of the injured.”
  • Striving to increase one’s knowledge whether it be religious or academic. Working towards becoming an informed and proactive citizen. According to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), “The seeking of knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim.”
  • Maintaining good company and friends that will influence the individual in a positive manner. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has stated, “It is better to sit alone than in company with the bad; and it is better still to sit with the good than alone. It is better to speak to a seeker of knowledge than to remain silent; but silence is better than idle words.”
  • Performing sincere repentance for one’s sins and seeking the mercy and forgiveness of God. Feeling guilty for transgressions that one has made, and then making an active effort to learn from one’s mistakes and never repeat them again.
Indeed, the essence of all good deeds stems from a pure and tranquil soul.

T.B Joshua Returns Elderly Woman’s Half-a- Million Naira Tithe

T.B. Joshua, perhaps Nigeria’s most
unconventional cleric, posted a heart-warming
story on his official Facebook Page about an
elderly lady who came to his church with an
unusual gift.
A retired teacher named Caroline Orugude had
come to The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations
(SCOAN) in Lagos, Nigeria to share a curious
testimony.
After retiring from her job in June, 2012,
Caroline was forced to wait almost two years
for the gratuity that she was supposed to
receive. “There was nothing much we could do
except pray because the pension system is so
unreliable,” she narrated to the congregation.
After visiting various churches for prayer
without any visible change, she was
introduced to Emmanuel TV, the popular
Christian television station broadcasting the
activities at The SCOAN, and began praying
along with T.B. Joshua.
Within two weeks, she received a call from the
treasury, asking her to go to Abuja to collect
her pension money. “I decided that when I got
the money, I would come to The SCOAN to
appreciate the Lord,” she joyfully said. “I am
here with the small sum of 500,000 naira, to
give to the man of God and The SCOAN, as my
tithe.”
It was an unexpected declaration but the
response of Joshua was equally surprising as
he insisted he could not collect the gift.
“Yes, it is written in the Bible that we should
pay tithe but how can we collect tithe from
widows and the aged who are supposed to be
under our care,” he questioned the
congregation.
“Remember, she has stopped working. She
needs our care for the rest of her life. These
are the women we should be feeding and
taking care of. She is our mother; she is my
mother too.”
The cleric, who is well known for his
philanthropic gestures, then announced that
instead of taking Mrs. Orugude’s tithe, he
would support her with an additional 500,000
naira.
“When God calls a man or woman, what they
will eat, what they will use and everything they
need for their journey will be provided
abundantly by God,” T.B. Joshua then
explained, noting the attributes of genuine
ministers of God.
“When a minister begins to depend on tithes,
you know he is not a minister of God,” he
added. “This is a message to ministers of God
all over the world. When we collect tithes, we
should know those whom we collect them
from. Don’t force anybody – it is between
them and God. Let us worship the Giver of
money, not money,” he concluded.
The post on Joshua’s Facebook page,
followed by 1.5 million people, ended with a
poignant question. “Where are your elderly?
Care for them and you shall reach old age.”
A video recently surfaced of Joshua refusing a
$1,000 offering from a Swiss lady who
received healing during his crusade in
Colombia. Several weeks ago, he spoke
scathingly of ‘money-hungry’ pastors,
insisting that ministers of God should not
force members to give offerings or tithes as it
was a thing of the heart.
