Udom Emmanuel Gov. uncomfortable with state-owned private jet, plans to sell it

Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, has indicated his intention to sell the state-owned private jet acquired by his predecessor Chief Godswill Akpabio.
According to a source in the state government, the Governor finds the jet unnecessary and wasteful in view of the current economic challenges confronting many states and the nation, and considering that the cost of maintaining and fuelling is high.
Emmanuel, who was inaugurated on May 29, 2015, said he prefers to travel by chartered helicopters as it is less flamboyant.
“Governor Emmanuel is not comfortable with the idea of sustaining the ownership of the jet and is contemplating selling it, more so, because of the slash in states’ allocations and the high cost of aviation fuel,” the source told Vanguard.
However, the cost of fuelling and maintaining the private jet was not disclosed.
