Saraki ‘We will reduce lawmakers’ allowances,’ Senate President says

Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki has said that a downward review of the allowances of Nigeria’s lawmakers is already in progress.
Saraki said that the move had become necessary in order to reflect the the current economic realities in the country.
The Senate President made the statement on Friday, June 19, 2015, after a visit to former President, Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
“Well, I think that is already in progress. If you remember, last time, it was about N150bn and it is coming down to N120bn. I think the situation in the country deserves that every public servant must make sacrifices and whatever sacrifice that is necessary, we will do it. And that is being done,” Saraki said.
“So, rest assured that we are sensitive. We are aware of the situation in the country and if we are going to lead, we must lead by example and we would do that,” he added.
Saraki also said that he had visited Obasanjo is order to seek his blessing and benefit from his wisdom.
