Apparently Messi was the Man of The Match when Argentina played out a 2-2 draw against Paraguay. But Messi was too angry at how they threw away a two-goal lead and wouldn't take the award.
The Argentina talisman played a vital role in Aguero's goal and buried a penalty to make it two for the Albiceleste, but the Barcelona forward could not put the game to rest in the second half. He was in no mood for any photo call after the final whistle.
A representative from MasterCard who hands out the award at every match of the continental competition, was told Messi will not be on hand to take the award. MasterCard were poised to give another Argentina player, but the players were unreceptive and the mood in the dressing room was sombre and cold like The Wall. Winter has come.
It was then decided to give the prize to one of Paraguay's two goalscorers and Nelson Valdez - who netted the first for the Albirroja before Lucas Barriosâ's late leveller - was on hand to pick up the unwanted man of the match award.
Argentina face Uruguay in their second Group B game on Tuesday.
