Manchester United told they must pay £72million to seal Gonzalo Higuain tranfer
Napoli have warned Manchester United and Arsenal that only a 'madman' £72m transfer offer will prize Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain away from Italy this summer.
The 27-year-old is a target for both sides having scored 18 goals in 31 Serie A starts last season and he is reportedly ready to end his two-year stay with the Italian side.
Louis van Gaal is particularly determined to sign a striker this summer after passing on the chance to sign Monaco forward Radamel Falcao following his disappointing year on loan at Old Trafford.
However, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis is adamant that the former Real Madrid man will honour his contract, unless a club meets his £72m buy-out clause.
'The contract will be respected,' insisted De Laurentiisis.
'He'll only go if a madman offers the buy-out clause.
'However, Gonzalo still belongs to Napoli.'
