Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara has said the state of Nigeria's economy is at the state of unmitigated disaster and needs the contribution of every stakeholder to be addressed before the country gets into serious trouble.

Dogara stated this yesterday in Jos while speaking with newsmen and assured government is working hard to rescue the economy from total collapse and appealed for support from the citizenry.

The Speaker expressed confidence that the House of Representatives under his leadership would experience peace and stability stressing "stability of an Assembly is anchored on fairness and justice, equal treatment for all irrespective of their background."

Commenting on the alleged jumbo pay for lawmakers, he added, "most of the figures being branded about as the salaries of National Assembly members were far from reality. The lawmakers don't fix their salaries but Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission.

"People should take the benefit of Freedom of Information Act to seek for information on that from the Agency, I do know that our salary is not in the region of N1 million per month.

"There are discussion going on relating to allowances being paid to members, this is a matter under our watch, we intend to bring this to front burner of national discourse. We have started it, as soon as we take root in the House of Representatives, position will be taken on this.

"This will be done by competent CSO in conjunction with development partner that we are discussing with that would help us conduct the needed assessment. By the time that the need assessment would be out, every Nigerian will know the true state of things."
